Tideborn Command

★★★★☆ 4.4 Editor rating

Tideborn Command puts you in charge of a scattered fleet trying to hold a chain of islands together. It's a strategy game that cares about logistics: fuel, repairs and where your ships are when the storm hits. The first time I lost a battle because I'd stranded my flagship without support, I finally understood what it wanted from me.

Battles play out on a hex grid with fog of war, and the AI is happy to punish greedy expansion. What I like is that a good defensive turtle is a valid plan, not a trap. Between missions you upgrade shipyards and juggle a modest economy, and none of it feels like busywork.

Touch controls on a small screen are the weak spot; a tablet makes it much better. If you like slow, thoughtful strategy and can forgive some fiddly menus, it's a keeper.
